| Show Jumping comes to Edmonton |

Tuesday, July 12th, 2005
Edmonton, AB - On June 4 the Kubota Cup Canadian Show Jumping Series will make its second appearance on its cross-Canada tour. The Edmonton Northlands Horse Show, with its unique setting on the infield of the racetrack, will be the stage as Karen Cudmore and Moxie try to increase their lead in the Western Canadian Kubota Cup Championship standings. And although "Captain Canada" Ian Millar, contesting the Eastern Championship, will not be looking for points, he will be looking to take home a portion of the $35,000 purse at the Kubota Cup Grand Prix.
Northlands Show Chairman Bruce Telford says, “We’re really excited about hosting the Kubota Cup. It has brought this show to a national level and it has attracted the interest of international riders who we have wanted to bring to Edmonton. And of course, Ian Millar is as good as it gets.”
Kubota Canada Ltd. has signed a multi-year sponsorship with horse shows in seven Canadian cities. Up for grabs in this inaugural year is a total $325,000 in prize money. At the end of the year a Crystal Trophy and a new Kubota RTV Utility Vehicle will be awarded to the Western Kubota Cup Champion and the Eastern Kubota Cup Champion.
Millar, an 8-time Olympic rider for Canada, says Kubota’s sponsorship is a perfect fit with show jumping. “There are parallel demographics with horse people and Kubota. We need the equipment for both our farming and landscaping needs. And there is no better equipment on the market for that than Kubota equipment.”
Kubota Canada’s National Marketing Manager John Gilliland says, “With the Kubota Cup it is the people who participate in it that have a fit with us, so we can help support them and in turn they will be supporting us.”
“I think corporate Canada more than ever has to step forward with its support,” Gilliland says.
The production crew from Generator Productions will again be on site as they continue to delve into the behind-the-scenes stories of show jumping and its riders, horses and other personalities. The stories are the subject of a television series airing this fall on national television. The Series’ theme song, “Along For The Ride”, written by Jon Van Wingerdon and included on a new album by fresh Canadian singing talent Craig McIntyre, will be featured at the Kubota Cup events during the week.
Horse lovers, show jumping fans and spectators looking for a fun day out are invited to come to the Edmonton Northlands Horse Show which runs June 1–5. All events (including parking) are free, including the Kubota Cup Grand Prix at 3:00pm Saturday, June 4. There are pony rides for the children on the weekend.
