Brandon, MB—Kubota Canada Ltd. has introduced the Canadian Sport Incentive Fund designed to help support and develop the sport of show jumping in Canada. Both the owners of competitive horses and the riders will benefit through the new system which will pay the entry fee for up to two horses for eligible Canadian riders at each of the 2008 Kubota Cup Canadian Show Jumping Series events across Canada.
“The intent of the Kubota Cup, now entering its fourth year, has always been to encourage and assist developing Canadian riders and horses, to help support them and the future of the national team,” explained John Gilliland, Marketing Manager, Kubota Canada. “We see this new Sport Incentive Fund as a building block that recognizes the investments of owners of developing high performance Grand Prix horses and promotes the talents of Canada’s equestrian athletes. We have watched three years of Kubota Cup competitors grow their careers through this series. The visibility they have received has given them a chance to get noticed, helped them gain customers and sponsors…now we’re taking another step in helping them achieve success.”
In addition to paying the entry fees for eligible riders, the Kubota Sport Incentive Fund also provides funding directed to the host venues to offset costs of site improvements.
The Kubota Cup Canadian Show Jumping Series, now in its fourth very successful year, has been specifically designed to help promote the sport of show jumping equally in Eastern and Western Canada. Competitions take place in six different provinces from the Pacific to the Atlantic coast, making this a truly national event. After three Kubota Cup Grand Prix or Derby events in both the Eastern and Western regions—each event features $35,000 in prize money—Regional Champions are declared and rewarded with a trophy and a host of prizes from sponsors.
The top five rider/horse combinations from each region automatically qualify for the Kubota Cup National Final, as do all event winners (provided they have entered at least two Kubota Cup events during the year). Additional riders to a maximum of 21, based on overall points and a ‘wild card’ entry make up the final field of 21 horses and riders for the National Final. Only Canadian citizens or landed immigrants are eligible to earn qualifying points which lead to an invitation to the Kubota Cup National Final which awards $100,000 in prize monies and a number of sponsor prizes.
